Story

In the drought-stricken village of New Mastchoh, Tajikistan, Ismatullo and his family turned hardship into opportunity with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). After participating in the UK Seasonal Workers Scheme, Ismatullo and his cousins returned home with savings and insights from IOM’s financial literacy and investment training programme, funded by the UK government. Together, they developed a business plan and secured a grant for a modern peanut processing machine.

This investment transformed their struggling business into a profitable enterprise, by enabling them to improve product quality and expand sales. Their success has also inspired others in their community and highlights how well-managed migration can be a force for good, for countries of origin, destination and for migrants themselves.
